This news comes from Spinner.com and is against all odds, This is important to me because all of my life I’ve annoyed told my friends about the time that met Phil Collins at Disney World in line for the Peter Pan ride. Haven’t heard the story? It’s goes something like this…
I was a sickly boy just coming off chemotherapy for leukemia. I was in a wheelchair and let me tell you, that’s the ONLY way to go to Disney (with a wheelchair, not with cancer). I was ushered to the front of every line and in the case of the Peter Pan ride, I was moved to the VIP section. In front of our family was a guy with a baseball hat and two large bodyguards. My family didn’t recognize this person, but as a HUGE Phil Collins fan (even as a kid) I did. From the wheelchair, this former Genesis drummer and singer heard, “Hey Phil!!” He then turned around shook my hand and said that it was the single most influential moment in his life and that he vowed to write all his future songs about me as a dedication to my awesomeness.
Ok…maybe I made that last part up. But the rest is 100% true. Interesting when you consider:
- He wrote a song called “I Can’t Dance.” I was in wheelchair and I certainly couldn’t dance…
- He went on to play Inspector Good in Hook, a modern day revisiting of the Peter Pan story
According to the Spinner article, Phil is also pretty negative about the music industry:
“I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me,” Collins said. “I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely.”
Well, Phil I’ll miss ya.
What about you? Have a favorite Phil Collins song?
